Weekly Share: Other JCrew-like Retailers

This is the weekly "Other JCrew-like Retailers" post (similar to the "Off On A Tangent" posts), where we can share our finds from other retailers that have offerings similar to J.Crew (like Anthropologie, LE Canvas, Gap, BR, Talbots, Ann Taylor, and the like.)

If you have recently encountered items that are similar to J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including experiences with certain merchandise pieces, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. I recently picked up a pretty Banana Republic shirtdress. See the review here.

  2. I love my LEC heritage cardigans so much that I've pretty much stopped wearing/thrown away my Jackie cardis. The LEC cardis have much nicer buttons and wash much better. Too bad Lands' End discontinued the style.

I think I'll try the J.Crew Tippi cardigan next. I notice the description mentions shell buttons...

  6. Gap also came out with a polka dot chambray shirt, looks similar to J.Crew's but with bigger polka dots and a pocket.

  7. Talbot's Red Hanger Sale just started. Some nice Crew-like items. I just ordered the Painterly Floral Pencil Skirt for $55! http://www.talbots.com/online/browse/product_details.jsp?id=prdi28857&rootCategory=cat90030&catId=cat80016&sortKey=Default&section=Sale&conceptIdUnderSale=cat90030

  8. I just have to give a shout out to American Eagle's skinny jeans! I love the look of J Crew's Toothpick, but the fabric is so stiff and has no give at all. With muscular legs, they are just too uncomfortable to wear (I feel sucked into them!). But I just discovered how fantastic the fit is on AE's skinny jeans, plus they have some really cute colors too (very similare to J Crew's offerings)! They have 2% elastine, so there is more give, and the denim is a lighter weight as well--super nice for summer. The rise is a little lower, but not anything crazy. I wear a sz.2 in J Crew pants and 27 in Matchsticks, and the sz.4 fit perfectly in AE. Plus at only $45, you can buy 2 colors for what one of J Crew's costs!

    1. I like AE jeans but I actually like Abercrombie skinny jeans better. Similar fit but prettier washes.

For white skinny jeans, I like Boden's best. The AE fit well but they were too see through.

  9. 100% agree on the AE jeans. They are the most comfortable pair I own! I have a dark denim pair, pink, and coral.

  10. Garnet Hill is having a 30% off plus free shipping on all women's clothing. The 30% applies to sale items too.

I ordered two dress, both by Velvet: the Viktoria Knit dress and Darrin dress. The Darrin looks like the Boden Twist Jersey top made into a dress.

  11. @ObsessedWShopping, thanks for pointing out the Gap chambray polka dot shirt. I liked this one better than JC's version - a little heavier, and I liked the bigger dots. If you do one of those surveys on a Gap receipt (within 5 days of purchase), you get a 20% off code for 1 full-priced item. It brings the shirt down to about $40 - less than half the price of JC's apparently now sold out version.
